Officials tomorrow will open the public comment period for a proposed $100-million regional transportation center that would incorporate taxis, buses, light-rail and rental cars at Bob Hope Airport.

The initial study and partial environmental declaration is available for public review and comment for a 30-day period on the airport’s website at the main libraries of Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena, and in the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority’s administrative offices, 2627 Hollywood Way in Burbank.

Airport officials in May spent nearly $95,000 to prepare an initial study of the proposed project to comply with state environmental law.

Written comments must be received by mail, fax or e-mail no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 23.

A Metrolink train bound for Bob Hope Airport blew through a red light during a safety test this week, prompting transit officials to halt the train and delay some of its lines.

Train 213, from Union Station to Burbank, reportedly ran a light that is typically green on Thursday afternoon.

Transit officials said the engineer called the red light as green and quickly realized his mistake. The train was halted some 25 feet past the final red light.

New safety regimens were put in place after the crash in Chatsworth last Sept. 12 killed 25 and injured 135 people.
