Per City Council direction, city spokesman Keith Sterling was implored to solicit public input on the film permit ordinance, which in the last two meetings has consumed roughly 3 1/2 hours of council deliberation, satisfied some, but more often drawn the ire of filmmakers and the public.

Along with an FAQ to be drafted by city executives and police and fire department personnel, Sterling has enabled the new city website survey feature to take comments from the public. The city, as Vice Mayor Anja Reinke made clear last week, is looking for constructive concerns and fresh ideas — along with the requisite criticism.

So, what do you think? Below is the question:

The City is seeking input from professional filmmakers on this proposed modification which will be brought before the City Council in the coming weeks. Please leave your comments below. Thank you.” Read the rest of this entry »

No evacuations were ordered this evening and 400 firefighters were released as the fire continued east and burned about five to eight miles south of Juniper Hills. No homes were threatened, but firefighters were deployed for overnight protection. Read the rest of this entry »

Fire Chief Tracy Pansini, a 29-year veteran of the Burbank Fire Department, had his medical leave extended an additional 60 days, officials said.

The first leave stretched from June 8 to Aug. 8, officials said.

Pansini, since joining the department in 1979, has risen through the ranks as firefighter, paramedic firefighter, engineer, captain, and battalion chief. He served as interim chief and assistant chief before being named chief in January 2006.

City executives would not comment on the nature of the leave, citing the chief’s right to privacy. Read the rest of this entry »
