Here’s a newsroom secret for you: Throw a cute pooch on the front page and you’re bound to get readers’ attention (Check out, Working like a police dog, an event put on by the Police Department’s K9).

Editors know it. And so do the folks at the library.

As part of its series of hosted events, the Buena Vista Library at 7 p.m. Thursday will offer “How to be a Better Pet Parent.”

Attendees can meet adoptable pets, learn tips on choosing the appropriate pet for their home, obedience training and socialization, proper nutrition, medical care and exercise, and how to prepare for the unexpected.

Now run along. I think hear your dog pulling the stuffing out of the couch.

It’s been six weeks since residents Amy and Jim Roach approached the City Council with friends and TV news crews in tow and implored city executives to help with the safe recovery of their beloved Kitty Pants, a pampered Seal Point Himalayan.

The council and Burbank Police Department pledged to do everything in their power to help. But it appears that wasn’t enough.

Wrote Kitty Pants (or, more accurately, the humans operating the cat’s Facebook profile) in a July 14 status update: “No Kitty Pants update. Family no longer lives at their residence and the Burbank police are trying to locate. Hopefully they moved to HELL.:)”

On July 26 came the following update: “I’m sad to say nothing to report. The fight may be over. I miss you all!”

Then, on Wednesday, came this dagger to the hearts of animal lovers everywhere: “With a sad heart…..The 6 month fight for my return has ended. The shelter and the city of Burbank have exhausted all efforts to find this family. They are nowhere to be found. Thank you all for all the Support and Love. And remember – there will NEVER be another Kitty Pants. Peace.” Read the rest of this entry »
